At Raise A Man, we work with boys, young men, young women, families, schools and communities to address the social, emotional and economic factors that affect young people's wellbeing, relationships and ability to reach their full potential.
Our Programs are designed to build healthy, responsible, skilled and empowered young people who can contribute positively to their families and communities.
Health and Mental Wellbeing
We promote holistic health and mental wellbeing among young people by creating safe spaces where they can access services & information, develop healthy coping mechanisms, express themselves openly and seek appropriate support.
Our approach recognizes that mental wellbeing is closely connected to relationships, identity, family experiences, social pressures, substance use, violence, economic vulnerability and a young person's sense of purpose.
We want young people to understand their emotions, seek help without shame, develop healthy coping mechanisms and build supportive relationships.
Our mental wellbeing work is anchored by our Tuchungane Kiakili approach—promoting a culture where individuals and communities look out for one another mentally.
Life Skills and Leadership Development
Young people need more than academic knowledge to successfully navigate adulthood. We equip them with practical life skills, leadership competencies and positive values that enable them to make responsible decisions and become active contributors to society.
We aim to develop confident, responsible and purpose-driven young people who can make informed decisions, manage challenges, lead others positively and take ownership of their future.
Gender & GBV Prevention
We engage young people, families and communities in challenging harmful gender norms and preventing gender-based violence.
Our work promotes positive masculinity, healthy relationships, respect, equality, accountability and non-violent conflict resolution.
We recognize that preventing GBV requires more than responding after violence occurs. It requires working with young people and communities to address the attitudes, behaviors and social norms that can contribute to violence.
We seek to raise a generation of young men and women who understand equality, respect boundaries, reject violence and contribute to safe and healthy relationships and communities.
Skills and Talent
Every young person has potential. Our role is to help them identify, develop and transform their abilities into opportunities.
Our skills and talent programs support young people to discover their strengths, acquire practical competencies and explore pathways toward education, employment, entrepreneurship and creative expression.
We aim to help young people move from potential to opportunity by equipping them with relevant skills, confidence, networks and pathways to economic and creative participation.
Advocacy & Community Engagement
Sustainable change requires communities to be part of identifying problems, developing solutions and holding institutions accountable.
We work with young people, parents, schools, community leaders, government institutions, civil society organizations and other stakeholders to promote dialogue, awareness and collective action around issues affecting young people.
We seek communities where young people have a voice, participate in decisions affecting their lives and work alongside communities and institutions to create safer, healthier and more inclusive environments.
Mental wellbeing can affect education and employment. Gender norms can influence relationships and exposure to violence. Lack of skills can increase economic vulnerability. Social isolation can affect mental health.
Together, these interventions contribute to our broader goal of raising a generation of emotionally healthy, responsible, skilled and purpose-driven young people capable of leading positive change.
